Jyväskylä kaupungin 2013 talousarvio ehdottaa koulujen lakkauttamista oppilaiden määrän mukaisesti. Ehdotus on, että koulut lakkautetaan, jos koululla on alle 40 oppilasta. Voiko tuolloin opettaja huomata oppilaiden henkilökohtaisia tarpeita, kun samaan aikaan säästetään, eikä koulunkäyntiavustajia ole tarpeeksi? Yle Teeman keskusteluillassa nuorten syrjäytymisestä 27.11.2012 kävi ilmi, että koulu jo nykyisellään rakenteellisesti aiheuttaa osan syrjään joutumisen – miten suurkoulut voisivat paikata kehitystä? Ei mitenkään, ilman lisäresursseja – siis rahaa – mutta pienkoulussa se on kuitenkin mahdollista; on yhteistyötä, toisista välittämistä ja mahdollisuus joustavaan opetussuunnitelman toteuttamiseen.
Liitossopimuksessa sanottiin, että aluettamme halutaan kehittää. Alasajo ei ole kehitystä. Minkälaista oikeata kehitystä ja kasvamista voi kylä ilman koulua odottaa? Muuttavatko lapsiperheet sinne?
Koulujen lakkauttaminen ei ole uutta Suomessa. 2010 julkaisu kirjassa ”Eläköön kyläkoulu” professori Eira Korpinen tutki seurauksia 2000 – 2004 300 lakkautetuista kouluista. Artikkeli Helsingin Sanomissa 6.11.20101 totesi, että
”Kertaluontoista säästöä tulee, mutta hyöty on syöty parissa vuodessa” ja
